Judge James Wickersham, a resident of Tacoma before he moved to Juneau, Alaska, provided us with this information about Si-a-gut: "Si-A-Gut, a Nisqually basket maker she originally came from Cowlitz where her people lived, makes the finest baskets on Puget Sound. In July 1899 I bought several baskets from her she sat on my floor and told me her history and about her baskets: I presented her with a handsome cup and saucer after paying her for her baskets, and also caused her picture to be made."
