Lama Lundrup Palden. Lundrup Palden was Abbott of Mgoraewam, a Sakya monastery, during the 17th and early 18th centuries. This painting was quite possibly done during the subject's lifetime as part of a longevity celebration. Above the lama are Amitayus, Buddha of infinite life (right), and Avalokitesvara, bodhisattva of compassion (left). At his feet are three protector deities, left to right Hayagriva, Kurukulla, and elephant-headed Ganapati. Along the sides of the painting are various lamas of the Sakya sect, each portrayed with individual characteristics and expressions.
