Arhats Attendant Dharmatala. Dharmatala is the attendant of the arhats, who traveled to India to bring back Buddhist scriptures. He is always portrayed with long, flowing hair and a backpack for carrying the texts. Here Dharmatala is blessed by the Buddhas Amitabha (in the upper left hand corner) and Amitayus (just above Dharmatala), and protected by a tiger at his feet and by two protector deities: Vaisravana, guardian of the north, on the right side, and Virupaksa, guardian of the west, on the left.
