Labrets are lip plugs worn as status symbols on the Northwest Coast. They proclaim the wealth and high rank of the women who wore them. This labret is probably a natural formation, said by Emmons to be a family heirloom. It was collected from the Auk Tlingit on Admiralty Island, Alaska
