"On the Northwest Coast, crests or other family images often embody entire stories involving the interactions of one's ancestors with the supernatural. Although the images from Art Thompson's family dance curtain appear publicly in this commercial print, the story behind the images was not released, in order to maintain the privacy of the family. In the photograph Thompson directs his family in a dance performance at Robert Davidson's 1980 potlatch in Massett."
