Robe, Amip. Ainu people wear robes like this as formal dress. Amip were influenced by the Japanese kimono, which was introduced through trade as early as the 16th century. Weaving fabric out of available resources, such as elm bark, the Ainu adopted the wrap-style robe and combined it with traditional Ainu embroidery.
