Exhibit Label     The Raven Memorial Pole originated in the Tlingit village of Tuxekan, Alaska. The pole was acquired by Governor Brady on November 3 or 4, 1903 from George Staney or Thomas Snuck. This pole was sent to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904 and then traveled to the Lewis & Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon in 1905. It arrived at Sitka National Monument in 1906. The pole was restored, not recarved, by CCC workers in 1939-42. The pole was destroyed by fire in 1959. The Raven was recarved by George Federoff shortly after, while the lower portion was adzed by Ralph Branson.
