© Adelaide de Menil		Object name     Photograph Subject     Totem Pole Photographer     Adelaide de Menil Exhibit Label     The Waasgo Legend Pole, also called the Gonaquadet/Gunakadeit Pole, most likely came from the Kaigani Haida village of Koianglas/Quinlas. The pole is thought to have been acquired by Governor Brady in 1903 from a man by the name of Yeal-tat-see. The original pole was erected at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904, then sent to the Lewis & Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon in 1905 and returned to Sitka National Monument in 1906. The pole was recarved by George Benson in 1939 and traveled to the New York World's Fair in 1964.
