Archaeology. This box is designed to introduce students to the subject of Archaeology. The collection includes a variety of objects such as potsherds, glass shards, bone tools, bone and shell fragments, and figurines, representing what archaeologists might find on a dig. Also included is a tool bag with archaeologists’ tools such as a waterproof notebook, measuring stick, flagging tape, paint brush, and more! Box Inventory (PDF).

More than 1,000 artifacts and scientific specimens fill our Burke Boxes. They include lessons and activities designed to supplement the study of natural history and culture for all ages. Developed by a team of educators to support Washington State education standards, Burke Boxes connect your students to real scientific specimens and cultural artifacts.

The current Burke Museum facility is closed through fall 2019 while we move collections and prepare exhibits for the new Burke Museum (opening fall 2019). Our Burke Boxes program will remain available during the museum closure. Please see the Burke Box Rental Information page for where to pick up and return boxes.
