Burke Museum Archaeology offers several scholarships each year to students, traditional knowledge holders, archaeology professionals and others to use the Burke’s archaeological collections. Typically these involve three days of residence in the museum’s collections but longer periods are also possible.

Scholars will be assisted by the archaeology staff, provided dedicated work space in the Burke’s new labs and access to our equipment. Our labs are visible to the public and we prefer to support projects that can accommodate public viewing or interaction, particularly on weekends and holidays. However, labs can be closed from view for sensitive collections.

We are dedicated to encouraging access for projects that broaden perspectives and share knowledge with the public. Your project might involve examining collections for a thesis or dissertation project, doing background research for heritage projects, investigating artistic or technology traditions, or many other possibilities.

Funding includes a daily stipend of $200. Those living outside of the Seattle metro area can apply for travel and housing costs (up to $250/day). We can also offer some support for laboratory fees (such as radiocarbon dating) on a case-by-case basis.
