You’re invited to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month at the Burke Museum with the Diasporic Oceania and Asias team!
Meet and celebrate our community partners and learn about the work of our Research Family student leaders. Enjoy family activities and mini tours to visit cultural belongings in our workroom windows.
About Research Families
Research Families open collections-based research opportunities for students at an R-1 university and provide a familial space of belonging and connection. All of our Research Families are led by graduate students and young professionals dedicated to building the next generation of researchers grounded in community relationships.
Current Research Families at the Burke Museum include undergraduates interested in Oceania, graduate students interested in Oceania, Knowledge Kapamilya (students interested in the collections and communities from the Philippines), South Asia (same as previous, but with the South Asia collections and communities), and Arts & Research Collective (surfacing themes of interest to students across communities).
3–6 p.m.
Devika Ajith will facilitate an interactive block-printing activity from 3–6 p.m. Visitors are invited to stamp their own words or patterns onto fabric using linoleum blocks that she has hand-carved. This process reflects the artist's interest in repetition, imprint, and material engagement, while also creating a participatory experience.
You can also visit Devika in the Artist Studio 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. where she will be working on personal projects.
