Hillary Mushkin will be exploring the Burke Museum's and University of Washington's connections to nuclear histories, focusing on the cloud as a metaphor. Hillary will consider objects collected from the Marshall Islands and hold a "draw-in".

In this gathering for plein air drawing, participants look to the sky and give themselves over to the fluid flows of clouds. She will provide simple but specific drawing instruction for drawing these rapidly changing phenomena using pencils and vellum. This "draw-in" serves as a hands-on way to think together about what's in a cloud and the atmospheric commons.

About the Artist

Hillary Mushkin is an Artist and Research Professor of Art and Design at the California Institute of Technology and organizer of Incendiary Traces, a conceptually driven, collectively generated art and research project that explores the political facets of representing landscape. Grounded in drawing, her art and research examine the power and limits of human and technological observation.
