Dig into paleontology at the Burke’s annual festival of fossils! 

Celebrate all things fossilized with hands-on activities for all ages! View hundreds of specimens from the Burke’s collection and hear about groundbreaking research from Burke and UW scientists.

Fossil fun for everyone!

  • Watch paleontologists uncover a duck-billed dinosaur in the Fossil Prep Lab.
  • Learn about the fossils of Sucia Island, including the one and only dinosaur bone found in Washington state!
  • Chat with Burke paleontologists and students about fossils from the Burke's extensive vertebrate, invertebrate, and paleobotany collections.
  • Check out the amazing T. rex skull unearthed by Burke scientists.
  • Enjoy our photo booth, button making, dino dress-up, fossil dig pits and craft stations throughout the museum.

  • Join us for story times with Baby Rex (bi-lingual Spanish readings at 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.)

  • Scientific illustration workshop with "Dinogirl" Clarissa Koos (11–11:45 a.m.)
  • Learn about the Burke's newest and most complete dinosaur, the Cold Harted Hadrosaur with Hell Creek Curatorial Assistant Nina Selto (12 p.m. & 3 p.m.) 
  • Join author, biologist, and Jurassic World consultant Steve Brusatte, to learn about Scotland’s sauropods and the rise and fall of the dinosaurs (2 p.m. & 4 p.m.)

Directions & Parking

This a popular event and high attendance is expected.

Parking is extremely limited, so plan for alternative options when possible. 

 

Light rail is an excellent option for traveling to Dino Fest!

– Park at the University of Washington station (next to Husky Stadium) and take the light rail one stop to U District station.

– The U District light rail station is just two blocks from the Burke.
