Igorot tattoo practitioner Ate Wamz will present examples of her traditional Indigenous tattoo work and will chat with visitors about patterns from different tribes and countries. She will also demonstrate stenciling — drawing on skin with pine soot ink before tattooing. (No actual tattooing will occur in the Artist Studio.)
About the Artist
Ate Wamz is a traditional Igorot tattoo practitioner from the Benguet Kankana-ey and Kalanguya tribes in the Philippines. She does Batek, a traditional tattooing practice in the Philippines, particularly among Indigenous communities in the Cordillera region, which includes Benguet.
