Oceanic Science Lives in Our Culture Symposium
Research Family Symposium celebrating Pacific Islander community and knowledge tabling, visiting scholars, activities, and even performances!
Alissa Takesy is a Micronesian graduate student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in the Environmental Studies Department. She is pursuing a double-designated emphasis in coastal science and policy & critical race and ethnic studies. Her research focuses on re-centering Indigenous Science in a marine ecosystem through a Rematau perspective on rights-based fisheries.
Wilson Jimna is the President of the Washington Marshallese Association, an organization that helps the Marshallese community in Western Washington. He also leads the canoe carving program and interfaces with the city of Auburn and other governmental groups.
