John Putnam's Collection of Alaskan
Archaeological Materials from St. Lawrence Island

One little known aspect of John's collecting is his excellent collection of Alaskan archaeological materials from St. Lawrence Island. Many of the artifacts are delicately carved ivory, others are made of bone, wood and stone. John's donation of these artifacts to the Archaeology division at the Burke Museum has been an important contribution to the research of the St. Lawrence region.
