A Special Basket: Described by Pat Courtney Gold

Snake: Most people are afraid of snakes. We have learned to live with them, and they can be useful in keeping down pests, such as rats, mice, and bugs. If you study them, they have beautiful designs on their bodies. This is my new design.
Water Bug: Water is important to this semi-arid region, and these are symbols of water, as are frogs.
Petroglyph Faces: The Wasco Tribe lived along the Columbia River for more than ten thousand years. Many petroglyph images greeted the people traveling the Wauna River (Columbia). These images honor the many petroglyphs drowned by the dams. We are fortunate to still have "She Who Watches" watching over us all. The image over condor was inspired by the face design from the basket collected by Lewis and Clark in 1805; it may well be "She Who Watches".
Deer: The deer are symbols of grace in the Plateau area, and are still there today.
Condor: Condors were common in the Columbia Gorge until the early 1800s. They are now extinct; but the good news is that there is a movement to restore them into their ancient habitat. I am involved in this movement.
