How You Can Help

It's up to us to protect the places that migratory birds depend upon. In the Arctic, the greatest threats to critical habitat for birds and other wildlife are oil and gas development and the effects of climate change.

Here are some tips and resources on ways you can make a difference in the fate of migratory birds and the future of our planet.

  • Join organizations that are active on these issues (e.g. your local Audubon society)

  • Vote for leaders who share your views; let them know what you think. To find contact information for your elected representatives go to the "Take Action" section

  • Buy bird-friendly products such as paper with recycled content (helping to cut timber demand and protect bird breeding habitat)

  • Look for paper products made with clean, safe processes such as chlorine-free bleaching (helping to protect air and water from toxic chemical build-up)

  • Protect and help restore bird habitat close to home
