How do I pay?

The Burke’s new online camp registration system is now up and running—just in time for 2018 summer camps!

For spring camps: You may pay via check or credit card after we receive your online camp registration & waiver form. Please call us at 206.543.5591 to pay by phone once you've received an invoice.

For summer camps: We introduced a new online camp registration and payment system on Friday, February 23, 2018. If you reserved a spot for a summer camp prior to this date, you should have received an email with instructions to complete camp registration and payment (all temporary camp holds expire on Friday, March 9). For new registrants, please use the summer camp registration form to register today!

Please note: Camps are subject to cancellation if enrollment numbers are low. All fees paid will be refunded in full.

Spring camp: I filled out the Registration & Waiver Form. Am I registered?

Spring camp registrations are processed in the order they are received. You will be emailed an enrollment acceptance once your camper's registration has been processed. Invoices and welcome letters for camps will be sent one month before the start date of your enrolled camp. Invoices can be requested earlier at your convenience. Incomplete registration will delay processing. Occasionally we will get a flood of registrations that take us over capacity before we can update the website. In these instances you will be notified that you have been placed on a waitlist, and will be offered a slot as soon as one is open.

Do you offer discounts or cost assistance?

Yes! Burke Members receive a discount on all camp registrations. A limited number of scholarships are available to attend Burke camps. Please submit the Camp Cost Assistance Form to get started!

What is your policy for refunds?

Cancellations must be made fourteen (14) days in advance in order to receive a refund. Availability permitting, it may be possible to transfer your registration fee to another camp.

How does the waitlist work?

If you want to join a camp that is already full or if you register after a camp has reached capacity, you will be placed on a waitlist. When a spot opens, we will offer it to waitlisted applicants in the order their applications were received. If we have a long waitlist for a camp early in the registration period, we may add a second session.

Do you offer extended care / aftercare?

Spring camps: Aftercare is available 45:30 pm for all full-day and afternoon camps. Aftercare costs $15 per day if requested at the time of camp registration. The cost increases to $30 per day for requests made after camp registration is submitted. Discounts do not apply. Day-of aftercare registration is not available. 

Summer camps: Aftercare is available 35:30 pm (45:30 pm for afternoon Little Dinos) for a fee of $15 per day at time of camp registration. The cost increases to $30 per day for requests made after registration is submitted. Discounts do not apply. Day-of aftercare registration is not available. 

What time do camps start/end?

Spring camps:

  • Drop off: 8:459 am
  • Camp: 9 am – 4 pm
  • Pick up: 44:15 pm for full-day camps; Noon12:15 pm for half-day camps. Late pickups will incur a fee.

Summer camps:

  • Drop off: 8:459 am
  • Camp: 9 am – 3 pm
  • Pick up: 33:15 pm for full-day camps; Noon12:15 pm for half-day camps. Late pickups will incur a fee.
What does the typical camp day look like?

Each day we typically do a group discussion and icebreaker game in the morning, followed by snack at 10:15 or 10:30 am. Weather permitting, we go outside for lunch and free-play from noon to 1 pm. Activities for our camps vary greatly, but all involve scavenger hunts, lots of crafts, and analysis of real museum artifacts/specimens.

What should we bring to camp?

Please send your child with a lunch (full day camps only), snack, sun protection, any needed medications, and comfortable layered clothing. Always send a water bottle as we will be outside a lot and our building can get warm. You may also bring self-regulation tools (book, fidgets) and safe/non-violent lunch toys (Frisbee, baseball glove, etc.).

Where do I park?

Your Welcome Letter includes a link to a camp parking pass. This pass will allow you to temporarily park in the University of Washington N1 lot (the lot closest to the Burke Museum) or the roundabout in front of the Burke's main entrance. For more information about parking, please visit our Directions + Parking page.

My child is advanced for their grade level. Can I enroll them in a camp for older students?

In order to ensure that we have enough spaces available to serve the intended audience of each camp, we must maintain our grade requirements. This also ensures that our camp activities and staff-to-camper ratios are appropriate, and that our campers are able to work well together. We have found that campers have a significantly better experience when they are with students in their own grade levels.

Can my daughter participate in the Girls in Science Camp and the year-long Girls in Science program?

The Girls in Science Camp is a scaled version of the year-long Girls in Science program, so many of the activities are identical. For this reason, we rarely accept girls into the year-long program who have also participated in Girls in Science Camp. If your student has already participated in one of our middle school programs and is entering high school, we encourage her to apply to our high school program here.

Why do you offer programs that are only for girls?

Women make up half of the total U.S. college-educated workforce, but only 29% of the science and engineering workforce. Burke Museum all-gender camps are typically more attended by boys than by girls; in 2016 67% of our campers identified as boys while only 33% identified as girls. The Girls in Science program seeks to increase female participation by providing a supportive environment where girls can connect to a variety of scientific fields.

My child requires special accommodations, please advise.

We will make every effort to accommodate your child. Please give a detailed description of your child’s needs while registering them for camp. You (or an aide) are welcome to stay with your child during camp. We particularly recommend this if your child has an IEP in school. Why don’t you offer full-day camps for K-1 graders?

Our current facility, most notably the lack of climate control, can be very fatiguing for young visitors. To ensure that our campers have a fun experience and leave the museum wanting to come back, we have found that a four-hour camp day is ideal for our youngest campers. 

What camp do you recommend for my K–5th grader?

We recommend the following grade alignments: Little Dinos for children going into 1st grade; Dinos for children going into 2nd or 3rd grade; Gross Out! for children going into 4th grade; Emeralds & Earthquakes for children going into 5th or 6th grade. 

Why don’t you offer more camps for teens?

Past enrollment for these programs has been very low, so we are looking for new ways to better serve this audience. Have a suggestion for a teen program? Let us know!
