What to expect during your visit

Masks are still required after June 30

Even as restrictions are lifted across Seattle, all staff and visitors (except children under the age of 5) are required to wear a mask in all public spaces and galleries for the entirety of their visit, regardless of vaccination status or if they are the only person/pod in a gallery. Children ages 3–4 are encouraged to wear masks, although not required.

Masks continue to be required to keep immunocompromised and unvaccinated people—including our youngest visitors—safe.

For those who cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons, please contact burkevis@uw.edu or 206.616.8616 for accommodation information.

Timed-entry tickets

Pre-purchased, online tickets are encouraged. A limited number of walk-up tickets are available on a first come, first-served basis as space allows. Book your ticket in advance to visit at your ideal time and skip the line on busy days like weekends and Free First Thursdays! You can arrive at any time during the hour of your reserved time slot.

Reserve your ticket online today or call 206.543.7907.

Physical distancing

We encourage you to maintain physical distancing when possible throughout the building. Some exhibits/spaces may have capacity limits to keep our visitors safe and comfortable.

Cleaning protocols

Additional cleaning is in place throughout the day with an emphasis on high-traffic areas like restrooms, railings, door handles, and elevators.

Hand sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is available at the admission desk, lower lobby, and other areas throughout the building.

Food & drink

Food and drinks can be consumed in the Cascade Room off the main lobby. Masks must be worn unless sitting in a designated area while eating. We highly encourage you to take food outside onto the lovely terraced steps of the Burke Yard for an even more enjoyable experience.

Off the Rez Café

The café is open with eat-in and to-go options. Limited seating is available inside and on the outdoor patio. Masks are required at all times except when eating. Off the Rez is performing additional cleaning and complying with all state guidelines issued for restaurants. Café hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 10 AM – 5 PM.

Paid parking is available through the University of Washington, with an option for touchless payment by phone. Learn more.

Youth Programs

Youth Programs at the Burke are required to follow specific health & safety guidelines determined by the UW Office of Youth Programs Development & Support. Please follow the guidelines specified by your program.

Private Events

We’d love to host your next gathering! Please visit our Private Events page for more information.

Thank you for doing your part in protecting our community by getting vaccinated! We appreciate you hanging in there for just a little bit longer with us by wearing a mask throughout your visit at the Burke. We’re requiring everyone to continue wearing masks in all galleries and public spaces regardless of vaccination status in order to keep immunocompromised and unvaccinated people—including our youngest visitors—safe.

You may see staff and volunteers with masks off in some labs and workrooms. This is because they are allowed to remove masks when they’re alone in non-public spaces ONLY if they are vaccinated.

Starting July 1, we will once again offer a limited number of walk-up tickets on a first come, first-served basis.

We recommend that you pre-purchase your tickets online to ensure that you can visit at your ideal time and as save time by skipping the line.

Afternoon time slots, especially on the weekdays, are typically less busy than others.
