Temporary Closure Notice

Based on directions from the State of Washington and King County health officials, the Burke Museum is closed until it is safe to reopen. As a public gathering space, this is a preventative action to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of our community, visitors, staff and volunteers.

If you have questions or pre-purchased tickets, contact burkevis@uw.edu, 206.543.7907 to reschedule.

What to expect during your visit

Timed-entry tickets

Pre-purchased, timed tickets are required for all visitors—including Burke members, UW card holders, and children age three (3) and under—to maintain physical distancing and manage capacity in the museum.

You can arrive at any time during the hour of your reserved time slot.

No on-site ticketing will be available. Reserve your ticket online today or call 206.543.7907.

Masks are required

Masks are required for all visitors except for children under the age of two (2). Masks will be available onsite in case you forget yours!

For those who cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons, please contact burkevis@uw.edu or 206.616.8616 for accommodation information.

Exhibits

Our hands-on interactives and playspaces will be on hold until public health officials deem it is safe to bring them back. We’ve been hard at work creating new displays in the galleries—we can't wait for you to see them!

Physical distancing

We will be monitoring room occupancy, as well as designating pathways and standing points throughout the building to ensure physical distancing.

Limited group size

If you arrive at the museum in a group larger than five (5) people, please split into smaller groups of five (5) people or less in order to navigate exhibits safely and maintain physical distancing throughout the building.

Cleaning protocols

Additional cleaning is in place throughout the day with an emphasis on high-traffic areas like restrooms, railings, door handles, and elevators.

Hand sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is available at the admission desk, lower lobby, and other areas throughout the building.

Cashless store

To maintain a safe environment for everyone, we strongly encourage cashless payment for store and café purchases.

Food & drink

Food and drinks can be consumed in the Cascade Room off the main lobby. Masks must be worn unless sitting in a designated area while eating. We highly encourage you to take food outside onto the lovely terraced steps of the Burke Yard for an even more enjoyable experience!

Off the Rez Café

The café is open with eat-in and to-go options. Limited seating is available inside and on the outdoor patio. Masks are required at all times except when eating. Off the Rez is performing additional cleaning and complying with all state guidelines issued for restaurants. Café hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm.

Parking

Paid parking is available through the University of Washington, with an option for touchless payment by phone. Learn more.

Contact tracing

As a health and safety measure, and in alignment with guidance from the Governor’s office and King County health officials, the Burke Museum will participate in contact tracing to allow for notification if a guest may have been potentially exposed to COVID-19. We only need information for one person per household. Visitors will have the option to opt-out of sharing their information at the time of ticket purchase. The museum will only share information if requested by health officials who will use it to contact you to explain the risk, answer your questions, and provide resources. We will not use this information for any other purpose, including sales or marketing. Learn more about COVID-19 at coronavirus.wa.gov.
