_____________________________________________________________
1 Data for 1928-1979 were taken from Fish Collection ledger books. Accurate records for accessions made prior to 1978 are not available. Only the date and locality of collection, the name of the person collecting the specimens, and the species and their numbers were recorded in a large Ledger Book during that period. Computerization of the Collection began in 1989 with the most recent Collections and is now essentially complete.
The number of lots accessioned by each Curator was estimated by counting the number of lots cataloged from the first and the last time the Curator’s name was recorded in the Ledger Book. This number is a very rough index of the use of the Collection during the reign of each Curator. Computer records of accessions are available for the period 1987-2002 and, hence, quite accurately record the use of the Collection.
2 Includes 61,831 cataloged lots of fish eggs and larvae.
