"THE BIG ONE" EVENTS AND LECTURES

Seattle— During the run of the temporary exhibit, The Big One, Earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest (Feb. 28—Sept. 2, 2002) the Burke Museum will present a variety of public programs and lectures relating to earthquakes in this region. EVENTS

FREE ADMISSION ON OPENING DAY!
Thurs., Feb 28, 10 am to 5 pm

Admission on the opening day of The Big One: Earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest is free to the public, as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the ground-rattling Nisqually quake. Whether you were crouched under your desk, or huddled in a doorway, last Feb. 28th, you’ll enjoy swapping memories with friends, family, and other museum visitors, as you learn about the geological forces that caused the Nisqually earthquake.

FREE ADMISSION FOR EARTHQUAKE SURVIVORS!
Sat. April 13, and Mon. April 29, 10 AM to 5 PM

The Burke is free to earthquake survivors on the anniversaries of two other major Northwest earthquakes! If you lived through the April 13th quake of 1949, or the April 29th quake of 1965, and you’re willing to share a memory of your experience, you’ll get in free!

HOME EARTHQUAKE SAFETY WEEKEND
Sat.— Sun., March 30 and 31, 2002, 10 AM to 5 PM
(Admission: FREE)

Learn how to make your home earthquake safe! This jam-packed weekend features knowledgeable vendors of all sorts of earthquake preparedness products and services. Workshops on home retrofitting and personal safety will be offered at the event. Sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies.

QUAKEFEST!
Sat. and Sun. April 27 — 28, 2002, 10 AM to 5 PM
(Included with museum admission)

A whole weekend of fun earthquake science activities for kids and families! You’ll see special presentations on Animals and Earthquakes, Plate Tectonics for Grownups, Engineering Secrets of Seattle’s Downtown Buildings, and Earthquakes in Legends and Stories. So shake, rattle, and roll your family down to Quakefest! Sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies.
