Example of Salish basketry

Central and Southern Puget Sound Salish people speak the Lushootseed language, one of many Coast Salish languages. They are famous for their coiled cedar root baskets decorated with imbrication. These baskets are usually oval in cross-section with gently rounded sides. The designs are geometric with broad zig-zags that resemble mountain peaks.
