This Web site is devoted to the fishes of Puget Sound, featuring a unique key to the 71 families of fishes that have been recorded within the estuary. The site also welcomes visitors who simply want more information about the amazing fish fauna of our area. You can access information about our fishes by browsing a list of the families, available here in either taxonomic or alphabetical order. The key was constructed at the University of Washington by Shannon DeVaney, with assistance from Theodore W. Pietsch. The organization of the key was inspired by that of Miller and Lea's key in Guide to the Coastal Marine Fishes of California , California Fish Bulletin 157 (1972). Taxonomy generally follows J.S. Nelson, Fishes of the World , 3rd Ed. (Wiley & Sons, 1994). Shannon DeVaney wrote the text content of this site and prepared family illustrations. Questions and comments of all kinds in response to this Web site and its content are always welcome. Please direct all feedback to Shannon DeVaney . This Web site is hosted by the University of Washington Fish Collection at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture. |
