Meet the Mammals!

Seattle– From whales to wombats – discover the amazing diversity of mammals from around the world on Sat., Nov. 3 at Burke’s all day family event. Meet scientists as they display specimens and share their expert knowledge of the animal kingdom. The Burke presents fascinating activities for the entire family:

  • Meet Burke mammalogists – Examine skulls, skins, and skeletons with specialists and learn about the diversity of our fellow mammals
  • Exotic anatomy – Touch specialized parts of unusual animals including spines, quills, scales, tusks, and antlers
  • Gallery walks – Take a tourof the Yellowstone to Yukon photography exhibit with a look at mammals from the region, and see grizzly bear, caribou, moose and other Burke specimens from the Yellowstone to Yukon wildlife corridor.
  • Film feature – Jim and Jamie Dutcher present “Living with Wolves,” a video about their six years living near wolves in the Sawtooth Wilderness, atKane Hall room 120, on the UW campus – a quick walk from the Burke Museum, at 2 pm.
  • Whale skeletons - Assemble an orca whale skeleton with our friends from the Seattle Aquarium!
  • Plus, learn about the new season of NATURE programs at the KCTS 9 table.

Meet the Mammals is presented by the Burke Mammalogy Division, in conjunction with Yellowstone to Yukon, a photography exhibit featuring wildlife and landscapes from the Yellowstone to Yukon wildlife corridor.
