Burke Museum Offers Free Family Fun with First Thursday Bio Labs

SeattleThis spring and summer the Burke Museum will host free, hands-on family events in the interactive Biodiversity Lab as part of the museum’s ongoing Free First Thursday program. Families may visit the Biodiversity Lab in the Present Times gallery to discover the truth about spiders and take a journey through the life cycle of salmon.

Spider Myths
Thurs., May 4, 2006
1-2:30 pm and 3-4:30 pm

Take a close look at the Burke Museum's spider collection. Meet a Burke Museum educator, see the spider specimens in the Biodiversity Lab, and find out if spider myths are true or false and why we collect so many spiders!

Swim in Their Skin
Thurs., June 1, 2006
1-2:30 pm and 3-4:30 pm

Come play Salmon Land, the game where you trace the amazing life cycle of a Pacific salmon, Oncorhynchus spp. You are the game piece in this fun, life-size board game that follows fish on their journey from the stream where they are born to the ocean and back again. This is a truly remarkable journey appropriate for kids of all ages.
