Seattle The Burke Museum announces Chas Hilton as the museum's first Director of Finance beginning February 2008. Hilton brings to the Burke extensive knowledge of museum and non-profit management, holding previous positions as municipal services administrator for the City of Tacoma and executive director of the William F. Harrah Foundation and the National Automobile Museum.
The director of finance is a newly created position. "The museum is expanding," states Burke Director Julie Stein, "Our exhibits and education programs serve more and more people, and our collections and research provide expertise to an ever-increasing number of agencies, scientists, and citizens. Chas will be a great support to these public services."
Hilton has served as president of the Nevada Museum Association. His financial experience includes six years as executive director of capital and business operations at AT&T. He holds a Masters degree in business administration from the University of the Pacific and a Bachelor of arts in finance from Claremont Mens College.
Hilton will be responsible for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, grant and contractual oversight for both the Burke Museum and the Burke Museum Association (BMA). He will also oversee financial planning for the museum expansion and capital campaign.The Burke Museum is the official Washington State museum since 1899, specializing in anthropology, biology, and geology, with collections and research conducted in archaeology, paleontology, ethnology, Northwest Coast art, ornithology, ichthyology, mammalogy, and botany.
