Some of our favorite recipes include:

Stinging Nettle and Elk Meat Stew

Nettles are extremely high in iron, calcium, magnesium, fiber and vitamins A & C. Using nettles in recipes is a good way to boost the immune system and aids in digestion. The best time to harvest nettles is early spring.

Salish Stir Fry

Fern tops, also known as fiddleheads, are gathered in early spring. Found near stream banks and moist areas, fiddleheads are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including iron and fiber.

Berry Crisp

Not long ago, families would spend a day or two collecting berries in the mountains, some would even bring their canning gear with them to preserve the berries on the mountain. Berries were either canned and used for jam and pie filling during the winter or dried and stored for later use in bread, cake, or as a snack.
