80 Days of Summer

Make your own craft to take home, answer questions to discover what object is in the Mystery Box, do scavenger hunts in the gallery and get outside and do outdoor activities (weather permitting)! At the Burke, we’re doing all those things every day, all summer long. Join us for daily adventures—we’re changing them up every week, so BOREDOM loses and you WIN!

Free First Thursdays

Thurs., Aug. 6, 2015 | 10 am – 8 pm

On the first Thursday of every month, admission to the Burke Museum is FREE and the museum will remain open until 8 pm. We hope you can visit us!

College Inn Pub

Burke Trivia Night at the College Inn Pub

Thurs., Aug. 6, 2015 – Sat., Aug. 6, 2016 | 8 –  8 pm

The Burke Museum presents a monthly pub quiz for science buffs, culture gurus, and museum lovers. Bring your friends to the College Inn Pub and test your knowledge of the natural world. Compete with other teams for drink vouchers and other prizes. Teams are limited to 6 players. Cost: $5 per team.

Burke Trivia Night happens every first Thursday at 8 pm at the College Inn Pub.

Hosted by the Burke Museum at the College Inn Pub, 4006 University Way NE. Support for Trivia Night was provided by the University of Washington Graduate School. This is a 21+ event.

Titanoboa: Monster Snake - Preview Party

Burke members are invited to join us for summer snacks, beverages, entertainment, and an exclusive sneak peek of our newest exhibit Titanoboa: Monster Snake before it opens to the public.

Titanoboa Exhibit Opening Day

Sat., Aug. 22, 2015 | 10 am – 5 pm

Enjoy samples of a special Full Tilt Ice Cream flavor inspired by Titanoboa  from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm while getting up close to the largest snake that ever lived at the opening of “Titanoboa: Monster Snake!” Also take part in snake crafts and other reptilian activities for all ages.

Lightning Serpents in Washington State:  Makah Culture and the Importance of Oral Histories

Thurs., Sept. 3, 2015 | 7 pm

Makah artist Micah McCarty will discuss the important function of the lightning serpent in the culture of the coastal tribes of Washington. The lightning serpent is an integral participant in the spiritual and ceremonial life of the Makah people.

Bug Blast

Sun., Sept. 20, 2015 | 10 am – 4 pm

Bug out as thousands of specimens, dead and alive, fly, buzz, or crawl to the Burke Museum for this favorite annual family event. Get eye-to-eye with giant walking sticks, examine bugs of all kinds from the Burke’s collections, try some buggy snacks, and more!

Special Guest: Scott Peterson, The Reptile Man
This  year in conjunction with our “Titanoboa: Monster Snake” exhibit, Bug Blast is adding more creepy-crawly fun! Join Zoologist Scott Petersen, AKA “The Reptile Man,” as he presents live reptiles from around the world. Pet and hold snakes, an alligator, lizards and a turtle. Shows at 10:30 am, 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm.

Join the Burke Museum for a day all about our feathered friends! See and touch hundreds of birds from the Burke’s ornithology collection, from hummingbirds to hornbills.

Meet the Mammals

Ever wanted to touch a bat? Or get close to a tiger? Meet hundreds of specimens from the Burke Museum’s extraordinary mammalogy collection.

Meet the Mammals is the only opportunity of the year for visitors to see hundreds of specimens from the mammalogy collection on display. There will be hands-on activities for the whole family; many of the specimens can be held or touched. Mammal experts are on hand all day long to answer questions and talk about the amazing diversity of mammals!
