Tastings are scheduled at 11 am and 1 pm and include recipe demonstrations as well as sample bites of the featured cuisine. Seating is limited. Thanks to support from our sponsor, PCC Natural Markets, the Burke will host tastings throughout the run of the Hungry Planet exhibit.
Turkish food is a unique blend of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, offering an abundance of locally produced fresh foods due to a pleasant climate and rich soil. With a coastline on the Mediterranean Sea, there is no shortage of fresh seafood in the cuisine. In other areas of the country, olives trees provide an abundance olive oil. Join PCC Cooks instructor, Sureyya Gokeri for quick cooking techniques and her vast knowledge of these healthy ingredients as she demonstrates her recipe, Muceddere (Turkish brown lentil pilaf with caramelized onions and spices).
Sureyya Gokeri is from Turkey and loves the richness and uniqueness of her culture. Having worked in Turkish restaurants, and owning a business selling Turkish imports with her husband for 17 years, she is rich with knowledge about Turkish cuisine. She loves interacting with people everyday but loves cooking more.
