PCC Tastings: East Indian Cuisine with Uma Bangalore

Add to Calendar Burke Museum
Sun., Feb. 26, 2012 | 11 am – 1:30 pm

Thanks to support from our sponsor, PCC Natural Markets, the Burke will host tastings throughout the run of the Hungry Planet exhibit.

Known for the extensive use of vegetarianism, Indian cuisine reflects the styles of Indian society. With the help of Indian spices such as turmeric, cumin, and curry, Indian foods are identified as elaborate, fragrant, and more often than not, spicy. Find out more about the intricacies of Indian cuisine such with PCC Cooks instructor Uma Bangalore and learn how to make Chitrannam (Magical Rice).

Tastings are scheduled at 11 am and 1 pm and include recipe demonstrations as well as sample bites of the featured cuisine. Seating is limited.

Uma Bangalore first began experimenting with cooking when she moved from Bangalore, India 22 years ago. When her palate began to crave every-day, home-cooked family meals, she started replicating dishes with the help of long-distance calls to her mom. She believes that homemade foods using fresh ingredients satisfy the stomach as well as the soul—as they did for her many years ago.
