The Burke Museum and the Archaeological Institute of America are pleased to present a special Archaeology Day. Discover the exciting world of archaeology through a variety of activities and games. 

Attendees can explore multiple aspects of archaeology and participate in activities including:

• See the Egyptian mummy from the Burke Museum’s collection and talk with Portland State University archaeologist Sarah Sterling about the archaeology of Egypt
• Get close to unique artifacts found in our very own Puget Sound region
• Talk about shipwrecks in Lake Union with The Center for Wooden Boats
• Try your hand at the ancient hunting skill of atlatl throwing
• Discover how archaeologists are analyzing garbage to improve recycling at UW, and test your recycling knowledge with special trivia!
• Hear about the Suquamish Nation's stewardship of traditional culture properties, and learn about the Old Man House archaeological site, home of Suquamish Chiefs Kitsap and Seattle, with the Suquamish Museum
• Join Roman reenactors to see their displays of armor and play ancient Roman games
• Find out what UW archaeologists are discovering about one of Israel's largest and most complex archaeological sites, Dor, with the UW Tel Dor Field School

The Burke Museum’s annual Archaeology Day is being hosted in partnership with the AIA’s 13th Annual Archaeology Fair. Each year, in conjunction with its Annual Meeting, the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) holds an archaeology fair with the express purpose of educating the general public about archaeology and the human past.
