Kuril Islands Biocomplexity Project

NEW to the Burke Box collection: The Kuril Islands Biocomplexity Project. This fascinating box considers both the scientific and cultural influences on the Kuril Islands.  Located north of Japan, the Kuril Islands are a chain of over 50 major islands spanning about 1,300 km (700 miles) northeast from Hokkaidō, Japan, to Kamchatka, Russia. In 2005, a hot shot team of researchers from the University of Washington, with funding from the National Science Foundation set out to consider the biology, geology, climatology and anthropology of this unique archipelago. Bring their research into your classroom with this exciting new resource. Pair this box with our Japan and Ainu boxes for a dynamic look at the region.
