Past Education Event

Peoples of the Plateau Educator Workshop

Artists from the Yakama, Nez Perce, Cayuse and Umatilla nations joined 21 teachers for an amazing, hands-on workshop. Teachers received a tour of the exhibit, This Place Called Home, from curator Miles Miller. Teachers also engaged in beading and weaving classroom activities with 8 different artists, and heard stories from saddlemaker and storyteller HollyAnna Pinkham. It was a great opportunity for the Burke to bring resources to teachers, and work with the community.

The reviews are in:

  • "The Native artists and their stories added so much to the experience…Thank you for a wonderful experience!"
  • "This has been WONDERFUL!"
  • "An amazing amount of work went into this workshop. Thanks…to all of you! What a great opportunity to learn."
  • The strongest feature of the workshop was: "The hands-on and the unlimited patience of the teachers."
